The future station is planned near US 1, State Road 528 and SR 501/Clearlake Road in Cocoa, giving Brevard County a future passenger rail connection to Brightline's existing Orlando-to-South Florida network.

Is Brightline Really Coming to Cocoa, Florida?
Yes, but the station is not open yet. The distinction is important because plans for a Space Coast Brightline station have been discussed for years. The August 2026 announcement moves the project into a much more advanced stage. On August 11, 2026, the City of Cocoa and Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization announced that the Federal Railroad Administration selected the Cocoa Multimodal Station and Rail Project for approximately $57.5 million through the National Railroad Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail Program.
According to official project information from the Space Coast TPO, the project has an estimated total cost of approximately $95.4 million, with roughly $57.48 million in federal funding and approximately $37.95 million in matching funds. The City of Cocoa is the project applicant, the Space Coast TPO is the co-applicant and Brightline Trains is the subrecipient.
The project phase is listed as Final Design & Construction. That is a much different status than simply saying local leaders hope to eventually get a station.
Where Will the Brightline Station in Cocoa Be Located?
The planned Cocoa Brightline station will be near the intersection of several major Brevard County transportation corridors: US 1, State Road 528 and SR 501/Clearlake Road.
The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization identifies the studied location as being behind the existing Walmart near Clearlake Road, on property between the Walmart site and the railroad corridor near US 1.
And one thing worth clearing up: The Brightline station is not planned for Cocoa Village itself.
The proposed location is farther west near Clearlake Road and SR 528. Cocoa Village would still be one of the Cocoa destinations that could potentially benefit from increased regional access, but visitors arriving by train would need transportation from the station to the historic downtown area.
The location wasn't chosen recently, either. The Space Coast TPO first identified the Cocoa area near US 1/SR 528 and Clearlake Road as the preferred station location in a 2016 study. A more detailed Intermodal Passenger Rail Station Feasibility Study followed and was completed in 2024.
Why Cocoa Makes Sense for a Space Coast Brightline Station
Cocoa sits at an interesting transportation crossroads. Brightline already travels through Brevard County on the Florida East Coast Railway corridor as trains move between Orlando International Airport and South Florida. The tracks run along US 1 through much of Brevard, with Brightline's Orlando route turning west in the Cocoa area toward Orlando International Airport. That makes Cocoa especially important from a connectivity standpoint.
The planned station is also relatively close to two of the Space Coast's largest visitor destinations.
According to Brightline's August 2026 announcement, the future Cocoa station site is approximately 10 miles from Port Canaveral and 17 miles from Kennedy Space Center. That doesn't mean Brightline will take passengers directly to a cruise ship or the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Travelers would still need a last-mile transportation option from the Cocoa station. But it could create a completely new gateway into the Space Coast.
What Will the Cocoa Brightline Project Include?
The project is much bigger than placing a small passenger platform next to the existing tracks.
Official plans associated with the federal award include a new in-line passenger station, on-site circulation, parking and approximately four additional miles of double track with supporting rail infrastructure. Brightline is expected to partner with the City of Cocoa on construction and then maintain and operate the station once it opens.
The 2024 Cocoa Intermodal Station Feasibility Study gives us an even better idea of what planners have been considering for the site. The opening-day concept studied by the Space Coast TPO included a station plaza, an eight-bay bus transit center, two parking areas capable of accommodating up to approximately 900 vehicles and a pedestrian overpass connecting the station building to the Brightline platform.
Those details came from the feasibility-stage concept and should not be treated as the final station design. Final design is one of the stages the project is moving through now. That's one of the biggest things we'll be watching next.
When Will the Brightline Cocoa Station Open?
As of August 2026, Brightline and the City of Cocoa have not announced a guaranteed opening date for the Cocoa station.Local officials have discussed a goal of having the station operational around 2030.
For now, we would treat 2030 as a target, not a confirmed opening date. There are still major steps ahead, including final design, environmental work, agreements, site preparation and construction.
So if you see a specific opening date floating around social media, keep that distinction in mind.

Where Will You Be Able to Go From Cocoa on Brightline?
Brightline's Florida network currently connects Orlando International Airport with Miami and several South Florida stations, including West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and Aventura.
Once Cocoa passenger service begins as planned, the station would connect Brevard County directly into that network.
Cocoa to Orlando International Airport
For Space Coast locals, this could be one of the most interesting possibilities.
A Cocoa stop would create a passenger rail option toward Orlando International Airport, potentially giving Brevard residents another alternative to driving SR 528 and dealing with airport parking.
Exact Cocoa-to-Orlando travel times, schedules and fares have not yet been announced.
Cocoa to Miami and South Florida
Heading south, the Cocoa station is expected to connect into Brightline's existing South Florida network.
That could eventually make trips from Brevard County to West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Aventura and Miami possible without driving the length of I-95.
What About Tampa?
Tampa continues to come up when Florida's future passenger rail network is discussed. Brevard County Commissioner Thad Altman referenced the possibility of travelers eventually being able to continue toward Tampa as part of the August Cocoa announcement. But a future Tampa expansion and the Cocoa station are not the same project, and there is currently no Cocoa-to-Tampa opening date.
For now, the confirmed local story is Cocoa's future connection to Brightline's existing Orlando and South Florida corridor.
How Did We Get Here? A Quick Cocoa Brightline Timeline
The Cocoa station didn't happen overnight. The Space Coast TPO began formally studying passenger rail station locations years before Brightline service to Orlando began.
2016: The Space Coast TPO's station-location analysis identified the Cocoa area near US 1, SR 528 and Clearlake Road as the preferred Brevard County station location.

How easy will it be to get from the station to Cocoa Beach? Will there be shuttles to Port Canaveral? What will parking cost? How frequently will trains stop in Cocoa? What will a Cocoa-to-Orlando ticket cost? How will local public transportation connect to the station? Those details will ultimately determine how useful the station becomes for locals and visitors.
Could Brightline Affect Cocoa and Brevard County Real Estate?
