First Look: The Massive New $140M Bowen Aquarium Coming to Port Canaveral

Brevard County is officially getting its very first world-class aquarium, and the timeline is locked in. The East Coast Zoological Foundation (ECZF)—the visionary team behind our beloved Brevard Zoo—is launching its highly anticipated second campus right on the shoreline: the Bowen Aquarium.
With the official groundbreaking date formally scheduled for December 2, 2026, this groundbreaking project is set to completely transform the Space Coast landscape by its projected opening in 2028.
A Look Inside the $140 Million Master Plan
The Bowen Aquarium will sit on 14 acres of stunning waterfront shoreline at Port Canaveral. Far from just a tourist attraction, this massive $140 million conservation hub will capture the raw beauty of natural Florida while emphasizing ecological restoration.
The state-of-the-art facility plans to include:
Thrilling Marine Exhibits: Getting up close with majestic bull sharks.
Interactive Touch Pools: Hands-on learning environments for families and kids.
A Dedicated Sea Turtle Hospital: Expanding the vital triage and rehabilitation work pioneered by the Sea Turtle Healing Center.
Manatee Rehabilitation Center: Providing crucial medical facilities and critical research zones to protect our local manatee populations.
Major Economic and Environmental Impact for Brevard County
The project's design phase is fully complete, and funding has already passed the halfway milestone (sitting at over 57% of its goal). Beyond saving wildlife, the Bowen Aquarium is heavily investing in our community. The build is projected to bring more than 900 local jobs to the Space Coast and will educate and empower over half a million visitors every single year. Its main regional focus will stay dedicated to rescuing and restoring our vulnerable coastal estuaries and the Indian River Lagoon.
