Accessible Restaurants around Melbourne, FL: Umbrella Tracks

Updated: Nov 8, 2022

Greetings, Creatures of V&D! ‘Tis I, Dez, here with a new subject matter to introduce. Accessible restaurants.

Now, you may be thinking, “but Dez, isn't every restaurant accessible?” I wish I could say they are, but that is not something I will expand on here. Every restaurant does its best, and are critiqued all too often.

This blog post was composed of information gathered from personal past experiences as well as Google maps virtual reality.

Always call ahead to ensure availability at your desired restaurant or bar.

This eatery was certainly not one I thought would be accessible for a person who uses a power wheelchair. I’m glad to inform you that I was completely wrong! The ramp into the location is easy to roll up and down, plus there’s always someone outside to open the door for you! The staff is friendly and kind, even chatty. But it’s once you make your way into the place, that is when your breath gets taken away. Or, at least, that’s what happened when I entered. To the left, rows upon rows of classic gaming booths with a wall of racing games on the front wall at the entrance. To your right is the bar. Granted, most of the surfaces are rather high, however if you have an able bodied person with you, you’re all set. (They also give you a shot on the house if it’s your birthday, really discreetly. Best response to a birthday I’ve personally seen.)

Here’s what we ordered, prices are subject to change though:

Mouse Trap.......$6.95

6 breaded mozzarella cheese sticks served with a side of marinara sauce or your choice of any one of our yummy sauces.

Scooby Fries....…..$6.95

Crinkle cut fries topped with hot cheese and bacon!

Dragons Milk..............$7.75

11% Alcohol by volume

Mango Cart........................$6.25

One hecking good drink if you like mango!

If you want somewhere for many wheelchairs to be, this is most certainly the place you want to be. If that group of people is over 18, that is. There is so much space, the ground is seemingly polished smooth… But personally, my favourite part of the layout is that there are so many places I can sit, just about as many as a regular two-legged would have. Topping it off with a little area connected to the end of the tall bar counter, is a wheelchair height bar counter. Now, if this bar wasn't directly next to a hallway, and if it wasn't so short, I'd love it unconditionally. But, it's a start.

Also, I'd like to mention that I have never been to this restaurant in person. But I absolutely cannot wait to go after seeing the inside on Google maps! I'd love to see this more with places, as that was my first time finding that was an option. Props to the people who run this place for allowing that on the internet.
