Comfort Food: Shepherd's Pie


Shepherd's Pie Ingredients


  • 2 Pounds Ground Beef Or Lamb

  • 2 Cups Onions

  • 1 Teaspoon Black Pepper

  • 1/2 Teaspoon Salt

  • 1 3/4 Cups Flour

  • 2-3 Tablespoons Butter

  • 1/8 Cup Soy Sauce

  • 3/4 Cup Ketchup

  • 1/2 Cup A-1 Sauce

  • 1/4 Cup Worcestershire Sauce

  • 1 Cup Diced Blanched Carrots

  • 2 Stalks Of Blanched Celery

  • 1 Cup Corn

  • 1 Cup Peas

  • 2 Cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese


Directions For Shepherd's Pie


  1. Saute ground beef (or lamb) with onions, salt & pepper

  2. Remove meat from pan. Leave the fat

  3. Add flour to the pan and cook until flour is absorbed and smooth

  4. Add butter and continue to stir

  5. Add soy sauce, ketchup, A1, and Worcestershire. Bring to a boil

  6. Add carrots, celery and meat mixture. Simmer

  7. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, then add corn and peas

  8. Place meat mixture in bottom of 8-12 ounce bowls

  9. Cover with mashed potatoes *(page 149)

  10. Cover with cheddar cheese. Garnish with paprika


*To use leftover mashed potatoes, heat potatoes in a pot and add 2 ounces of hot butter then reheat on high, stirring constantly until smooth
